DISCONTINUED MODEL
The Blueair 203 is a high-quality small room air purifier. Blueair designed it to fit tight spaces and engineered it to serve you and your family for many years. It doesn’t take up all that much room in your home, but it will remove a large amount of contaminants.
Plus, Blueair guarantees the quality of their purifiers through an independent certification by the AHAM. Like our other air purifier reviews… this one will discuss the features and cons of this product to help you make an informed decision.
Blueair
Blueair calls Sweden home, but they’re focused on health and clean air world-wide. With a combination of high-efficiency filters and electrostatic charge, Blueair air purifiers are some of the top-rated air purifiers available.
Blueair perfected what they call HEPASilent technology, to set themselves apart from competitors. HEPASilent is a combination of a True HEPA filter, a nearly silent fan motor, and an ionizer. True HEPA filters capture particles as small as 0.3 microns. And that means that they remove as much as 99.97 percent of pollutants from the air in your home. However, HEPASilent filters are proven to clean up to 99.99 percent of particles, as small as 0.1 microns.
Blueair 203 Air Purifier – Features and Technology
Just like all their air purifiers, the Blueair 203 has been given a CADR rating by AHAM. This smaller model is rated to clean 155 Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM). Thus giving it about 5 changes per hour in AHAM testing. That is one of the best ratings for this size of air purifier.
HEPASilent Technology
The Blueair 203 operates at a low 32-56 decibels. Which is pretty impressive considering that breathing tops out around 10 Decibels and rustling leaves tip the scales at twenty.
Because it produces little sound, the 203 is a great choice for a baby’s room. Plus as it can serve another purpose as a white noise machine. Which is perfect if you live in an fairly noisy area or building. Also, the HEPASilent’s electrostatic charge is low enough that it doesn’t produce ozone. And you don’t want Ozone as it is a harmful lung irritant and especially bad for tiny respiratory systems.
Another great feature of their HEPASilent filters is that they are coated with polypropylene, which is a low-impact synthetic antimicrobial. This means your air purifier will also kill mold spores.
Electronic Filter Timer
Blueair also includes a sensor that reminds customers to change their filter. The filter timer is easily programmed. It looks a bit like an electronic fridge magnet. But it’s magnetic back lets you put it in a place you see often.
Of course, if you are particularly busy (or forgetful), there is also the option of joining Blueair’s Filter Club. Do so, and they will send you a replacement filter every so often.
Suitable Applications
With an area coverage of 240-square-feet, the Blueair 203 is most suitable for bedrooms. Because it doesn’t produce ozone, it is a good choice for people with sensitive respiratory systems, such as people who suffer from asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder. It is quiet, yet efficient enough to be used in a high-traffic room like a living room. Or you can put it in a bedroom and use the soft hum as a white-noise machine. While it cleans the air of allergens and particles, it won’t absorb odors or smoke, making it unsuitable for kitchens or smoking homes.
BlueAir 203 Air Purifier Review
The Blueair 203 is a perfect air purifier for small spaces, such as bedrooms, craft rooms, or smaller living rooms. It lacks some of the fancier features of Blueair’s more expensive models, such as the 403 or the 603, but it is good for people looking for quality but don’t need a whole bunch of different additions. It doesn’t come with a carbon filter. So unless you buy one of their smokestop filters, don’t expect it to absorb smoke, odors, or VOCs.

Final Thoughts
The Blueair 203 air purifier is one of Blueair’s most cost-efficient air purifiers. Yet it still offers the same type of filter technology as their larger or more technologically advanced models. It is a basic air purifier, with no UV lamps, carbon filters, or corona generators. What this means is that, although it lacks the features that make its larger-room models more popular, it is the safest option for families and people with sensitivities to chemicals or gases.
