About the Company…
Austin Air, an American Company, calls Buffalo, New York home. Richard Taylor started the company in 1990 while searching for a solution to his wife’s respiratory ailments. Taylor focused, from the start, on a filter that combined HEPA and activated carbon filtration. He wanted the best for his family and says a lot about the company. In fact, we recommend the Austin Air Purifier lineup in many of our reviews.
His choice of truly effective purifier tech paid off, and the Austin Air company flourished. Today, Austin Air is widely known for its medical-grade filters and well-respected thanks to several clinical trials.
Also, the US government, including FEMA, chose Austin Air purifiers to assist New York City residents after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Austin Air takes pride in building all of their products in the United States. They make it their priority to represent American industry and fight for respiratory health. In addition to their efforts after 9/11, the US government also chose Austin Air to assist the citizens of Anniston, Alabama after deciding to destroy deadly gases and chemical weapons.
Customer Service/Warranty
Austin Air takes pride in its customer service department. Their team is happy to help with any questions, purchases problems, or faulty products. Each purifier comes with a 30-day money back guarantee, no questions asked. In addition, all Austin Air purifiers and filters are backed by a 5-year warranty. However, you must register your machine with Austin Air upon purchase.
Austin Air Purifier Standard Units
In the product line, Austin Air offers a range of “Standard” units for in-home use. These machines feature a simple design with a focus on power and efficiency. They’re not the best-looking purifiers but they are available in a few color options, from white to gray to blue. These machines definitely fall into the function over form category, but really excel at helping with various health and home needs.
The Healthmate series focuses on everyday air concerns as well as chemical issues. There is an “Allergy Machine” designed for people with asthma and allergies, as well as “The Bedroom Machine” for people with sleeping issues. Finally, “The Pet Machine” is specifically designed for pet owners. The purpose of their standard air purifying units is to provide optimal clean air to your home.
Austin Air’s Junior Units
The Junior air purifiers are compact versions of the standard models. The smaller size is better for smaller spaces, but still, purifies a lot of air. Junior versions are available for the Healthmate, Healthmate Plus, and Allergy Machine. There is also a “Baby’s Breath” unit that is designed for baby’s rooms, with the added bonus of more kid-friendly color options.
Replacement Filters
All Austin Air purifier filters combine HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Arresting) filters with a carbon/zeolite mixture. As we’ve discussed elsewhere, HEPA filters are capable of removing up to 99.97 percent of all particles down to 0.3 microns and 95 percent down to 0.1 micron. And perhaps the strongest plus of Austin Air is the carbon blend (~15 lbs) is exceptionally good at removing tiny particles and odors.
Austin air filters have a life expectancy of up to 5 years. While all Austin Air purifiers start with the basic features offered by the Healthcare model, the other units include extra features to help with more specific problems.
HealthMate™ Standard
The Healthmate Standard is Austin Air’s basic machine. It is designed to meet everyday needs. It removes a wide range of pollutants, from chemicals and gases to odors and bacteria. Austin Air suggests this machine for families, people with slight air sensitivities, and those located near places like farms or cities.
The Healthmate pushes dirty air through four filter stages. A large particle filter and a medium particle filter are followed by an activated carbon and finally a HEPA filter. The unit measures 23” (high) x 14.5” (wide) x 14.5” (deep) and the machine is mounted on easy roll casters. Austin Air purifiers are not the fanciest looking models, but they are easy to move around and fit well into small spaces. This model comes in white, gray or blue.
HealthMate Plus™
The Healthmate Plus has many of the same features as the standard Healthmate but with a larger focus on people with chemical sensitivity. This model is still great for general use, but also removes benzene, wood smoke and VOCs (volatile organic compound) from the air.
Austin Air recommends this unit for people with MCS (Multiple Chemically Sensitive) and other pre-existing health issues. The Healthmate Plus has the same dimensions and color options as the standard model. However, compared to the standard Healthcare, it has a superior gas filtration system and exceptional capacity for trapping VOCs.
Allergy Machine™
People suffering from severe allergies and asthma should consider the Austin Air Allergy
Machine. This model will help reduce the effects of dust, pollen, and other allergens and is great for those living close to farms, plants, and populated areas.
The special filtration system targets allergens, chemicals, and gases. Just like the Healthmate line, the Allergy Machine measures 23” (height) x 14.5” (width) x 14.5” (depth) and is available in three different colors. It can clean the air of a room up to 1500 square feet and is particularly good at combating seasonal and constant air problems.
The Bedroom Machine™
Austin Air designed The Bedroom Machine to improve sleep-related problems. This air purifier has the same main features as the Austin Air’s other models with a few extras to increase performance. To better clean the air of a bedroom up to 1500 square feet, the Bedroom Machine houses a 5-stage filter system. This captures gasses and particles at the nano size level and contains a carbon and zeolite mix in addition to a carbon cloth.
Pet Machine™
Pets provide constant joy. But, they also provide unwanted allergens and odors. Austin Air designed their Pet Machine for pet lovers. According to Austin Air, The Pet Machine reduces common allergy symptoms while helping your immune system. The awesome odor removing ability is the result of large amounts of carbon and zeolite in the 4-filter system.
Baby’s Breath
The Austin Air Junior air purifier line includes several smaller versions of the standard machines as well as the Baby’s Breath. All Austin Air Junior air purifiers measure 16.5 inches in height by 11 inches in width by 11 in depth and can clean the air of a room up to 700 square feet. They are more compact machines perfect for smaller rooms and spaces.
The Baby’s Breath is great for families and children. Its 4-stage filter works well and shares filters with the Austin Air Allergy Junior Machine. This mini-model comes in a larger range of colors, including pink and blue.
